Underwater Shaking-Table Investigation of Complex Deep-Water Pile-Cap Foundation for Xihoumen Rail-cum-Road Bridge

To study the mechanical characteristics of complex pile-cap foundations and distribution law hydrodynamic pressure acting on piles cap in deep-water environments, 60 m foundation Xihoumen rail-cum-road bridge was considered for this investigation. This paper focused introducing design implementation process simulating an earthquake using underwater shaking-table test a 1 : model systematically summarizing results. The results showed that water reduced acceleration foundation; however, strain, displacement, increased varying degrees with depths, maximum strain by 13.8% X-direction excitation 15.1% Y-direction 1.0 water-depth environment. corner pile largest under excitation, followed front-row pile, middle smallest.
